Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!
Back when I was interviewing for my first job in journalism — as a sub-editor at my local newspaper — I was given a general knowledge quiz. I had to provide definitions for 20 or so terms.
One of those was “Hansard.” So, I wrote down Glen Hansard, who’d won an Oscar for writing “Falling Slowly” (the tribute linked there made me deeply sad about his death all over again). The interviewer asked me who he was and I explained. They then revealed the answer they were looking for was that Hansard is the official transcript system for parliamentary debates in the UK, Canada and other Commonwealth countries.
Still, the interviewer said my answer would still be treated as correct, given that it was a valid, newsworthy reference. And now I’ll never forget what Hansard means in terms of governance.
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

The cushion red herring seemed a little too on the nose to me. It only took me a moment to figure out the yellows once I realized what WHOOPIE had to refer to.
The purples were next, thanks to PIN and GOGGLES. I OWE YOU then helped make the blues clear. That left the greens for win number 524 in a row for yours truly.
How did you get on this time? Here's my grid:

P.S. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched some Like a Version covers. I enjoyed Nerve’s recent take on Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack.” The harmonies and strings help make it distinct from the original. Good stuff:
