Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!
James McAvoy has stepped behind the camera for his directorial debut with a film called California Schemin’. It’s based on a true story and it’s about a pair of rappers from my hometown in Scotland who weren’t able to make much headway with music industry executives in London. However, after they pretended to be from California, they started to find success.
The trailer looks good and early reviews are promising. I’m definitely looking forward to this one:
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

Mr. INCREDIBLE was the first thing that sprang to mind when I saw that word. So it didn't too long to figure out the blues from there.
Those refer to the Cars series, The Incredibles (and The Incredibles 2), the Minions films and Monsters Inc./Monsters University.
The yellows were easy enough to spot. MODERATE could have fit in there, though.
From there, I figured out the greens (no real issue there) but I remembered to submit the purples first, for once. It took me a minute to figure out what the connection was there, but staring at TOADY for long enough made it click. I would probably just call 'em reptiles and amphibians instead of... whatever that word is. These refer to adder, monitor, newt and toad.
Squaring all of that away means my streak is now at 280 wins in a row. Goodness. That's not bad. How did you get on today? Here's my grid:

P.S. There are quite a few bands I like releasing holiday songs this year. Foo Fighters are probably my favorite band of all time, but I’m so disappointed in them for realizing a visualizer video for their cover of “Run Rudolph Run” that was made using generative AI. Gross.
I have no such compunctions about this very fun (and original!) holiday song from The All-American Rejects, though. “Get This” is pretty decent:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
