Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!

I’m a big fan of Aftermath, an independent, worker-owned publication that covers video games, the internet and culture. I really ought to become a paid subscriber, actually!

I enjoy reading pretty much all of the team’s work, but I especially loved a recent story about how one of the writers earned enough rewards from relocating Citi Bikes (bicycles used in a New York City bike-sharing program) to pay for a Nintendo Switch 2. It’s a great, entertaining read, though there are broader issues to consider here, particularly when author Chris Person zooms out to examine this program from a labor standpoint.

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — craving (DESIRE, ITCH, THIRST, URGE)

  • 🟩 Green group — jobs that involve traveling (CRUISE DIRECTOR, PILOT, ROADIE, SALESMAN)

  • 🟦 Blue group — name homophones (EARNEST, KNEEL, RUSTLE, TAILOR)

  • 🟪 Purple group — astronomical terms plus a letter (COMETH, NOVAK, START, SUNG)

NOVAK jumped out right away. The obvious reference there is to tennis great Djokovic, but nothing else made sense sport-wise. However, "nova" lined up with "star" in START and "comet" in COMETH. Then I realized that "sun" in SUNG made sense with those. That got me the purples.

I somehow blanked on TAILOR when I decided to submit the four other jobs I spotted. I didn't clock that travel was involved in the greens, but I was happy to luck my way to a group there.

RUSTLE and EARNEST then made the blues stand out to me (they refer to Ernest, Russell, Neil and Taylor). The yellow category was easy enough to figure out too.

Really happy to get a perfect game today. And that extends my streak to 364 wins. That's surely not too significant?

How did you get on today? Here's my grid:

🟩🟩🟩🟩

P.S. It's been at least a week since we've had a heavy rock song as a recommendation, and that doesn't sit right with me. Let's fix that right now with "Good Boy" by Saint Agnes.

This is the first thing I'd heard from this band and yup, this alternative/industrial rock tune is totally my jam. Not least because of what Saint Agnes said about it over on Instagram: "Good Boy was written to be a scathing critique of obedient, subservient men who uphold the capitalist death cult, feed the machine and call it a virtue." Hell yeah. This rips:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
