NYT Connections hints and answers for Saturday, January 10

Are you still writing “2025” when you have to make a note of the year? Me too.

It usually takes me a couple of months after January 1 to fully make the adjustment. I’ll probably end up still writing “2026” for a full 12 months. It just probably won’t be the correct 12 months, exactly.

The yellows got me kickstarted today. I wasn’t really seeing anything else and those made sense together. I went for it, and got my first group.

The electronic devices were next. No problem there either. (Did you know that Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989? That might seem long ago, but I can’t think of too many inventions that have changed the world so dramatically in such a relatively short time.)

I was a little stumped at this point. I really didn’t feel like hitting the shuffle button for some reason. So I just tried a group of random-ish words. SPLIT and DIP at least made sense together in my head, so I started with those. I was a little surprised to get the blues! These are all slang words meaning to leave a place.

I knew that VOLT and GRAM were units of measurement, but MOLE (a term used in chemistry to measure the amount of substance) and BAR (atmospheric pressure) escaped my mind.

I fluked my way to a regular rainbow this time, but I’ll take it! That’s win number 315 in a row for meeeee.

P.S. I saved this song until Saturday, because I didn’t think many people will care about this one but I simply must share it. This week, Babymetal dropped a new video for one of their earliest singles, "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!," which they re-recorded to mark their 15th anniversary. The video has nods to Ringu and there’s said to be a tribute to Mikio Fujioka, a late member of the group’s backing band. I enjoy this very much. All together now:
