Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!

Here’s something very cool I found out about recently. The Curta calculator is a handheld mechanical device that helped people add things up until the advent of digital calculators in the 1970s.

I suppose it was more portable than an abacus or other adding machines. It can also multiply, subtract, divide and find square roots and percentages. It’s so very neat:

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Saturday, June 27 are coming right up.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — Monopoly squares (BOARDWALK, INCOME TAX, SHORT LINE, WATER WORKS)

  • 🟩 Green group — components of a fashion show (CATWALK, COLLECTION, DESIGNER, MODEL)

  • 🟦 Blue group — commonly striped things (BARBER POLE, BILLIARD BALL, CREDIT CARD, CROSSWALK)

  • 🟪 Purple group — ending in horse gaits (DECANTER, ENVELOPE, FIREWALK, FOXTROT)

I feel like we've had FOXTROT in Connections a whole lot. It clearly wasn't a NATO phonetic alphabet or dance reference this time, so I figured there had to be some wordplay or other purpley nonsense going on.

BOARDWALK, INCOME TAX and WATER WORKS seemed like a Monopoly thing (yet again), but I don't know the US version of the game well enough to see what might fit with those.

So, I thought I'd play it safe. The fashion show words seemed clear enough. BARBER POLE had to be a stripey thing, so I found the blues. There's a stripe on the back of a typical CREDIT CARD.

SHORT LINE I guess made most sense as a Monopoly thing at that point. So I got the yellows. I propose a moratorium on Monopoly-related categories for like two years.

That left the purples. Really don't like this one, given that there are three words other than FIREWALK that end in "walk." That feels cheap and not very Connections-y.

Anyway, my streak is now up to 482.

How did you get on this time? Here's my grid:

🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟦🟦🟦🟦
🟨🟨🟨🟨
🟪🟪🟪🟪

P.S. I’m planning to see Angine de Poitrine at a free outdoor show tonight as long as the weather isn’t too bad. Here’s another video of them playing under the skies in this fine city from last year, on top of Ubisoft’s office in a fun part of town. Tonight’s show will just be a wee bit bigger:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
