Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!

Back in my university days, I always found it frustrating that lecturers would mark down my essays/papers because I almost never cited secondary sources. I always felt that it was more prudent to show my own thinking, analysis and conclusions related to the primary sources, rather than having to factor in the opinions of others.

I do think it’s important for us to consider the experts of opinions in many respects, such as when it comes to climate change, the economy and so on. I also do agree that reading sound, well-argued criticism can help us inform our own opinions. But also I’m lazy and I didn’t want to do extra reading. I always backed up my points with examples from the text, so maybe just give me credit for that?

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Saturday, June 6 are coming right up.

Need some extra help?

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — pillar (POLE, POST, SHAFT, STAKE)

  • 🟩 Green group — indicate, as emotions (BETRAY, DISPLAY, EXPRESS, REGISTER)

  • 🟦 Blue group — kinds of lizards (BASILISK, DRAGON, MONITOR, SKINK)

  • 🟪 Purple group — _____ table (DINNER, DRAFTING, ROUND, TIMES)

The yellows were first up for me today thanks to SHAFT and POST. DISPLAY, EXPRESS and REGISTER then fit together. It took me a minute to realize that BETRAY should be there as in to BETRAY one's true emotions.

From there, DRAFTING and DINNER helped make the purples clear. That left the lizards to wrap things up.

Glad I avoided the newspaper red herring (TIMES, MONITOR, EXPRESS, REGISTER) as I won my 461st game in a row.

How did you get on this time? Here's my grid:

🟨🟨🟨🟨
🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟦🟦🟦🟦

P.S. I was very happy to see that Don Hertzfeldt recently uploaded a high-definition version of his classic, Oscar-nominated short Rejected to YouTube. The absurdist animation details a creator’s journey as brands continue to reject their increasingly unhinged pitches for cartoon ads. Rejected was an early viral video and a foundational work of Internet culture. It’s surreal, strange and often gross. I’ve been quoting it since I was a child:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!

On weekdays, you can find this column over at Forbes. Please follow my blog there for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot!
