Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!
I started Pastimes a year ago this week and I’m still having fun with it. I haven’t been able to make space to write non-Connections-related things as often as I would like or start working on my other ideas for this place. I’d love to have bandwidth to do more, though I’m only just keeping up with my current workload. So, TBD on that.
Someone recently clicked a link on Pastimes to sign up for a paid plan on the newsletter platform I use for it. I didn’t even know that was possible since I haven’t switched on any other monetization options here. I got a small commission off of that, so thanks to the person who signed up! I guess that makes Pastimes a professional endeavor and, as such, any business expenses I incur with this place are now tax deductible. I think that’s how it works.
Also, I didn’t realize this until the other day (if I did, I forgot until now), but I started Pastimes on the seventh anniversary of my first day at Engadget. So I’ve been there eight years now. Wild. New owners took over Engadget this week, so keep your fingers crossed for me and my colleagues that everything goes smoothly!
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

INTERIOR and TREASURY made the blues immediately obvious to me, so I took care of those swiftly. The stage performances were next for the greens.
I then spotted what had to be the yellows — the mind-related words — so I took care of the purples first. I figured those had to be newspaper references and I was correct! That left the yellows for a 427th victory in a row.
