NYT Connections hints and answers for Saturday, November 1

Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections.

(Can you tell I’ve watched a lot of baseball this week?)

Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend! I hope you’ve got some fun and/or restful plans in store — especially if you overindulged at a Halloween party last night.

I’ve mentioned a few times that I need to get in better shape. I have a lot of reasons to do this: my long-term health, feeling better on a day-to-day basis, easing my loved ones’ concerns and my sister’s wedding. I’m making more of an effort with this after largely cutting bread out of my diet and getting on my rowing machine a little more often. Small steps, but they’re ones in the right direction.

But I realized I have another reason to get in better shape. I really want to be able to dance my butt off during the entirety of Electric Callboy’s set when I see them next year. It’s a weirdly big motivator. I’m a big believer in embracing whatever motivations you can to drive positive change for yourself, and that sure is one for me.

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Saturday, November 1 are coming right up.

What Are Today’s Connections Hints?

Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today’s Connections groups, I’ll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them.

Today’s 16 words are...

  • RAVEN

  • PINKY

  • CHIP

  • JET

  • INKY

  • ROCKY

  • FILE

  • CLYDE

  • HARDY

  • SUE

  • TELLER

  • CHARGE

  • INDICT

  • ITCHY

  • PITCH

  • CHER

The level one hints for today’s Connections groups are:

  • 🟨 Yellow group — someone's about to be judged

  • 🟩 Green group — like the fashion palette of many goths

  • 🟦 Blue group

  • 🟪 Purple group — they might have been drawn together with a close companion, but they can certainly stand on their own four feet

One Word For Each Connections Group

Let’s take a look at one word for each group.

  • 🟪 Purple group — PINKY

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?

Need some extra help?

Today’s Connections groups are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — take to court

  • 🟩 Green group — black

  • 🟦 Blue group — second in a famous real-life duo

  • 🟪 Purple group — rodents who are first in a cartoon duo

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — take to court (CHARGE, FILE, INDICT, SUE)

  • 🟩 Green group — black (INKY, JET, PITCH, RAVEN)

  • 🟦 Blue group — second in a famous real-life duo (CHER, CLYDE, HARDY, TELLER)

  • 🟪 Purple group — rodents who are first in a cartoon duo (CHIP, ITCHY, PINKY, ROCKY)

Remember how we had a Ms. Pac-Man group yesterday? INKY, PINKY and CLYDE are two of the ghosts in that game. I really do like when there are threads linking one game of Connections to the next. CHER was referenced this week too!

Anyway, the yellows were first up for me today. I didn't have any doubts after I mentally drew a link between CHARGE and SUE.

I got the greens next after spotting INKY and JET close to each other. These are just ways to describe different shades of black.

I then figured that we'd probably have a group of one half of famous pairings. But all of the remaining words were options! Look:

  • Laurel and HARDY

  • PINKY and The Brain

  • ROCKY and Bullwinkle

  • Penn and TELLER

  • ITCHY and Scratchy

  • Bonnie and CLYDE

  • CHIP and Dale

  • Sonny and CHER

Writing all of those out helped clear things up in my head (fun fact, I generally write these thought process sections out as I go). Separating those into real and fictional duos was the only thing that made sense to me. I went with the fictional ones first and got the purples. And that left the blues. I was right about those too.

Happy to get a perfect game here to extend my overall winning streak to 245 games. Here's my grid for today:

🟨🟨🟨🟨
🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟦🟦🟦🟦

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to subscribe to my newsletter for hints and the solution for Sunday’s game if you need them.

P.S. Since it's Halloween weekend and we've got Itchy and Scratchy on the grid, I am afraid (pun definitely intended) I have no choice but to recommend that one Treehouse of Horror episode in which Bart and Lisa got sucked into an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon. It's a good one!

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
