NYT Connections hints and answers for Saturday, November 8

Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!

I learned about something pretty interesting this week. In 1990, a German man named Gunther Holtorf placed an ad in a personal column. He met a woman named Christine and the two hit it off. It didn’t take long for him to suggest that they travel together.

That started an odyssey that saw the pair drive around the world in a 1988 G-Wagen off and on for the best part of two decades. They eventually married, shortly before Christine died in 2010. Holtorf eventually continued his adventure with other companions and by the time he stopped, he had driven through 179 countries over 26 years. He was, among other things, the first Westerner to drive in North Korea.

Theirs is a fascinating story. The BBC reported on it back in 2014. Holtorf died in 2021 at the age of 84. He has his own Wikipedia page.

It took me a little while to get cooking today. Hitting shuffle a few times helped, because DELIVER and PRESENT landed next to each other. GIVE was a clear partner, though it took me a moment to figure out that PRONOUNCE was the fourth word I needed.

The yellows were easy enough to spot after that. No real issues there.

PROGRAMMING was then a giveaway from the blues, and CHING was my gateway into figuring out the purple connection. (Was “ran” as in “Iran” a step too far for a hint?)

I was a little worried when it took me few minutes to start seeing any connections. I got there in the end to extend my winning streak to 252 games.
