NYT Connections hints and answers for Saturday, September 6

Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections.

Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!

This week, my partner noticed that I have a bump on the back of my neck. Years of craning my head down to look at my phone and otherwise poor posture almost certainly led to that.

It gave me cause for concern, so I immediately started looking into ways to help prevent the issue from getting worse or to reverse it. There are a few exercises I’m trying that will hopefully strengthen my neck and shoulder muscles to stop my head from slooping down so much. I’ve also bought a shoulder harness to — fingers crossed — improve my posture. In addition, I’m trying to be more mindful of my sleeping positions to minimize stress on my neck.

I shouldn’t be too surprised. I’ve been conscious for a while that I have difficulty keeping my head against the cushion of my desk chair. It keeps titling forward toward my monitor and keyboard (I’ve been using PCs and typing for decades and often still need to look when I’m typing). Still, this is more motivation for me to stop using my phone so dang much. I don’t want end up looking at my shoes all the time as an old man.

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — ruptured (BLEW, BROKE, BURST, SPLIT)

  • 🟩 Green group — apparition (SHADE, SPECTER, SPIRIT, WIGHT)

  • 🟦 Blue group — predict (CALL, DIVINE, FORECAST, READ)

  • 🟪 Purple group — Best ____ Performance Grammy Award (AMERICANA, CHORAL, JAZZ, RAP)

A pretty straightforward game this time. Not too much there in terms of red herrings, I didn't think.

BURST and SPLIT led me into the yellows. While I initially thought DIVINE might have been a reference to “The Divine Comedy,” it was easy enough to see where it went after it landed next to both FORECAST and READ.

I was quite surprised by the purples. We had a music genre group very recently and this one seems very easy for a purple category? Anyway, I'd already suspected WIGHT would be a reference to a supernatural entity and so it transpired. A SHADE is another name for a ghost.

A perfect game brought my current streak up to 190. Here's my grid for today as I cross my fingers for a more challenging game tomorrow:

🟨🟨🟨🟨

P.S. I have a very simple recommendation for you this late summer Saturday: take a break.

Stop looking at your phone for a while. Take deep breaths. Take a moment to pause, close your eyes and just listen. Just try to take things easy for a bit. And please, be mindful of your posture.

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
