NYT 'Connections' Hints And Answers For Sunday, August 3

Hey there, Connectors! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far.

I really ought to get back to writing more non-Connections stuff here at Pastimes. It’s important for me to keep a consistent cadence, though, and until I can do that and stick with it, I don’t feel like it’s right to commit.

I hope the time will be right soon, though. I have a few ideas for topics and have started chipping away at a couple. I think once I have a couple of completed entries in the can, I’ll be ready to get going again. I have an idea about how to bring guest writers into the fold (and to pay them something for their contributions) as well, but want to make sure I have a healthy bank of my own writing here before I start working on that. I’m in this for the long-haul, but I’m just taking a pit stop. Thanks for being patient with me there.

Lots of animal (or animal-related) words today! I got the ball rolling quickly by smashing through the greens - what I thought were more specifically ball-based sports. The yellows posed no problems either.

Whenever I see the word BEETLE in a game like this, I assume it has something to so with The Beatles. Sure enough, as I looked as BIRD (The Byrds), GORILLA (Gorillaz) and Monkey (The Monkees), the purples made perfect sense.

That left the blues for victory. I had a pretty decent idea about that connection from the jump, but wasn't sure what would work with CRAZE, FAD and FEVER. Of course BUG makes sense there as in "caught the cooking BUG" etc.

That brings me up to 157 wins in this ridiculous run. Let's see how long I can keep it going. Here's my grid for today:
