NYT 'Connections' Hints And Answers For Sunday, July 13
Find the links between the words to win today's game of Connections.
Hey there, Connectors! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far.
You know something? I feel like I’ve been a bit of a bummer in these intros lately. While I try to be as authentic and honest as I can with you all, I also want this column to be a positive space. After all, Connections is a fun game, and I’m generally an upbeat person. I’ll try to dial back the gloom and doom a little, and focus a little more on bringing you cool, fun and interesting stuff alongside your daily dose of Connections hints and answers. 🙂
I do plan on bringing you more non-Connections posts here soon too. I have some ideas in the hopper, so I’m hoping to start that back up again in the near future. I need to get in the right headspace and carve out enough time to make sure I can keep delivering those regularly. My aim is to start doing so in a few weeks after a little downtime. Thanks for your patience!
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Sunday, July 13 are coming right up.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are...
🟨 Yellow group — insult (BURN, KNOCK, SLIGHT, ZING)
🟩 Green group — credit card info (EXPIRATION, NAME, NUMBER, ZIP)
🟦 Blue group — slang for printed matter (GLOSSY, MAG, RAG, ZINE)
🟪 Purple group — wine nicknames (BUBBLY, CAB, CHARD, ZIN)
I was pretty sure right away that ZIN (Zinfandel), CHARD (Chardonnay) and CAB (Cabernet Sauvignon) were shortened versions of types of wine — I am a gentleman of a certain level of sophistication, after all. Alas, I could not see what I was sure would be the fourth purple right away, so I looked elsewhere to begin with.
ZINE and GLOSSY seemed like magazine references, with RAG and MAG looking like good partners. MAG and ZINE are both short for “magazine", and GLOSSY refers to magazine (typically a premium one) that’s printed on such paper. A RAG is a derisive term for a low-quality publication. I didn't quite nail the category title, but I'll take the blues as my first group any day of the week.
The yellows were next up and those were easy enough to figure out. I then realized that EXPIRATION, ZIP, NUMBER and NAME were all likely to be things found on a piece of ID. That meant BUBBLY had to go with what I assumed were the purples, so I submitted those first and had the connection easily figured out. That left the greens (since when are ZIP codes on credit cards?) to complete a perfect game and my 138th win in a row. Here's my grid for today:

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. I’ll be back over at Forbes for the Monday-Friday editions for the column. And if you haven’t subscribed to Pastimes already, definitely do that! It would be super sweet of you.
P.S. It is Sunday, and I like to go with a more low-key recommendation on this day of the week. I'm not quite sure this one fits the bill. It's a little too energetic for that, I'd say. But hey, it's a new Neko Case song. And it rules. So here it is, for your aural enjoyment:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
On weekdays, you can find this column over at Forbes. Please follow my blog there for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot!
Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. Also, subscribe to this newsletter if you haven’t already!
