NYT 'Connections' Hints And Answers For Sunday, July 27

Hey there, Connectors! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far.

Hey, it's game 777 today! I'll be honest, sometimes these intros are the last things I write for the column each day. But this time around, I'm doing it first. I don't have any way to prove this, but you're just gonna have to trust me on it.

I'm going to make a prediction that today's game will concern gambling in some way. Because getting three 7s on a slot machine pull often means winning big prizes. Just a hunch. Let's see how things go.

Fun grid today! Still, the blues jumped out at me immediately. While PICNIC could have gone with the yellows, I guessed that group correctly too. Phew!

At that point, the greens became pretty clear, so I slid those through. That left the purples. I didn't know that tricks were involved in the game HEARTS. I've never played! And of course, "trick or treat" is linked to HALLOWEEN.

I enjoyed this one! I was totally off the mark with my slot machine theory. The HALLOWEEN and CHILD'S PLAY red herring was fun too — those are both horror movie franchises.

And just like that, my streak is up to 151 with a perfect game. Abracadabra! Here's my grid for today:

P.S. I watched the first episode of the Netflix series Untamed this week. I'm intrigued enough to keep going. As it happens, my YouTube algorithm surfaced this song by the absolutely terrific singer-songwriter (and adopted Montrealer!) Leif Vollebekk. I'm a huge fan of his and I already loved this track. I just found out it appears in a later episode of Untamed too. So now I have another reason to keep watching the show.
