Hey there, Connectors! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far.

I think there’s something to be said for the value of doing things alone. I enjoy flying solo on trips to the cinema — it lets me focus my attention entirely on what’s happening in the film without worrying whether my companion(s) is or are having an enriching experience.

The same goes for concerts. I’ve gone to many by myself because no one I knew was interested in the artist or it’s just something I need to drink in alone (but surrounded by hundreds or thousands of other people). Yes, shared experiences are great. But so too are solo ones. We all should have more of those .

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Sunday, July 7 are coming right up.

What Are Today’s Connections Hints?

Scroll slowly! Just after the hints for each of today’s Connections groups, I’ll reveal what the groups are without immediately telling you which words go into them.

Today’s 16 words are...

  • SEUSS

  • CHINA

  • DISNEY

  • DECAF

  • CRUMB

  • PRUSSIAN

  • PEPPER

  • WARE

  • EVIL

  • CRYPTO

  • POTTERY

  • GRAIN

  • MORSEL

  • DRE

  • SHRED

  • CERAMICS

And the hints for today’s Connections groups are:

  • 🟨 Yellow group — things that go in a kiln

  • 🟩 Green group — little bit

  • 🟦 Blue group — I wonder how long all of these spent in a specialist school to be fully qualified

  • 🟪 Purple group — like orange peel and prankle

One Word For Each Connections Group

Need some extra help?

Be warned: we’re starting to get into spoiler territory.

Let’s take a look at one word for each group.

Today’s Connections word hints are…

  • 🟨 Yellow group — CHINA

  • 🟩 Green group — GRAIN

  • 🟦 Blue group — PEPPER

  • 🟪 Purple group — DECAF

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?

Today’s Connections groups are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — fired objects

  • 🟩 Green group — particle

  • 🟦 Blue group — doctors

  • 🟪 Purple group — ending with homophones of parts of the leg

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — fired objects (CERAMICS, CHINA, POTTERY, WARE)

  • 🟩 Green group — particle (CRUMB, GRAIN, MORSEL, SHRED)

  • 🟦 Blue group — doctors (DRE, EVIL, PEPPER, SEUSS)

  • 🟪 Purple group — ending with homophones of parts of the leg (CRYPTO, DECAF, DISNEY, PRUSSIAN)

It was immediately apparent thanks to SEUSS that there was either going to be a group of doctor-related words or a red herring of such terms. What else could SEUSS be referring to, after all? The only other doctor options I saw were PEPPER, EVIL and DRE, so I had to go for it. Sure enough, that got me the blues.

Dr. SEUSS is the pen name of a famous author of children's books. Dr PEPPER is a type of soda. Dr. EVIL is the main antagonist from the Austin Powers movies, while Dr. DRE is a rapper, record producer and businessman.

I figured there was probably some kind of wordplay going on with DISNEY, so I left that well enough alone. But I did make a mistake by going for CHINA, PRUSSIAN, POTTERY and CERAMICS. I was one away from a group there. WARE should have been there instead of PRUSSIAN, and thus I had the yellows.

The greens then became pretty clear, but I was very curious about the purple connection, so I submitted that group first.

Oh my gosh, I hate this group so much. It's way, way too out there. I'm sorry to anyone whose streaks have been broken by this one. They refer to toe (CRYPTO), calf (DECAF), knee (DISNEY) and shin (PRUSSIAN). It probably doesn't help that I pronounce DISNEY as DIS-neigh, not DIS-nee. I would have had no chance.

And yet, I got my 131st win in a row. Here's my grid for today:

🟦🟦🟦🟦
🟨🟪🟨🟨
🟨🟨🟨🟨
🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟩🟩🟩🟩

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. I’ll be back over at Forbes for the Monday-Friday editions for the column. And if you haven’t subscribed to Pastimes already, definitely do that! It would be super sweet of you.

P.S. It’s got to be a Dr. Dre song today, innit? I probably could recommend more rap and hip-hop songs to keep things more balanced, to be honest. I’ve loved “Still D.R.E.” since I was a kid. That beat is unforgettable, and maybe, just maybe relaxing enough for a Sunday? I’m going with it anyway 🙂

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!

On weekdays, you can find this column over at Forbes. Please follow my blog there for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot!
