Hey there, Connectors! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far.
While we’re in the midst of football fever during the World Cup, let me tell you a fun little factoid about my team, Dundee United. Reading a recent interview with Brian Cox (who, like me, is from Dundee) in The Athletic made me realize I haven’t shared this with you yet.
Dundee United’s most bitter rivals, Dundee, are located very close by. Just 200 yards down the street, actually:
They’re closer together than any other two senior football stadiums in the UK. Danny Dyer once said he “can’t get me nut round” how close together they are. But Dundee are moving to a new stadium on the outskirts of the city, so this fun wee fact won’t last much longer.
My dad’s a Dundee fan, and he took me to a few of their games when I was very small. But then I went with my uncle to a few United games and that was it for me. I had a season ticket for a few years before getting a job on Saturdays. Last time I went to a game there, we beat Celtic for the first time in forever. Looking forward to the next one. After Scotland win the World Cup, of course.
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are...
🟨 Yellow group — precipitation (DRIZZLE, RAIN, SHOWERS, SPRINKLES)
🟩 Green group — bowls over (FLOORS, ROCKS, STUNS, SURPRISES)
🟦 Blue group — NBC sitcoms (COMMUNITY, FRIENDS, SCRUBS, WINGS)
🟪 Purple group — starting with kinds of insults (BARBADOS, DIGGITY, DISSECT, SLAPDASH)
As soon as I saw DIGGITY, my brain went to SCRUBS. Sure enough, that (and SURPRISES) was on the board too. However, I didn't see another partial song title that could be preceded by "no," so I put that notion aside at the outset.
Sure enough, I realized that SURPRISES had to go with the rest of the greens. As such, I figured DIGGITY had to have some wordplay going on. DIG(GITY) and BARB(ADOS) made sense to me, and it didn't take long after that to figure out the purple group, Diss and slap are the other two insults.
From there, the sitcoms became clear — I've been meaning to do a COMMUNITY re-watch! That left the yellow precipitation for a 476th win on this run that continues to baffle me.
How did you get on this time? Here's my grid:
🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟦🟦🟦🟦
🟨🟨🟨🟨
SHOWERS, SPRINKLES, DRIZZLE and maaaybe DISSECT could have been a group as well. A double red herring day, I think!
That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. I’ll be back over at Forbes for the Monday-Friday editions for the column. And if you haven’t subscribed to Pastimes already, definitely do that! It would be super sweet of you.
P.S. “No Surprises” is kinda laid back, right? I’m not a big Radiohead fan, but this a gorgeously sad song:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
On weekdays, you can find this column over at Forbes. Please follow my blog there for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot!
