(I would — and have — happily eat a bowl of good mashed potatoes for dinner. Mmmm. Maybe without the cat, though.)

Hey there, Connectors! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far.

I don’t want to go on a big rant about AI chatbots yet again right now. I’ve done enough of that lately, even if they absolutely suck and deserve endless scorn. One of the things that bothers me about them is how deeply soulless and devoid of humanity they are.

I really do love websites and blogs. Finding a place that a person, organization or even brand has made their own on the internet. You can kind of do whatever you want with a website. Web design is still such an important creative field!

From time to time, I enjoy going onto Cloudhiker, which has hand-picked more than 30,000 websites across 20 categories to explore. After you sign up, you just pick the topics you’re interested in and start exploring websites within them at random with the click of a button.

It’s not just looking at websites; it’s about learning things and having fun too. From measuring the size of the moon ourselves and helping build a giant marble run, to learning more about Indigenous slavery in the Americas and reading up on typography, I’ve discovered a lot of interesting things on Cloudhiker.

(This is absolutely not an ad, by the way. I just find Cloudhiker super interesting.)

Cloudhiker is a smaller-scale version of one of my favorite internet things ever, StumbleUpon. That had its own successor, Mix, which I also enjoy, but that’s more about images and videos. I just need to see some new websites sometimes, y’know?

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

Let’s take a look at one word for each group.

  • 🟨 Yellow group — POSTER

  • 🟩 Green group —ROBOT

  • 🟦 Blue group — COUP

  • 🟪 Purple group — QUESTION

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?

Today’s Connections groups are...

  • 🟩 Green group — retro dance crazes

  • 🟪 Purple group — _____ mark

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — images seen on the street (GRAFFITI, MURAL, POSTER, STENCIL)

  • 🟩 Green group — retro dance crazes (HUSTLE, MASHED POTATO, ROBOT, TWIST)

  • 🟦 Blue group — silent "P" (CORPS, COUP, PSYCHO, RECEIPT)

  • 🟪 Purple group — _____ mark (BEAUTY, CHECK, QUESTION, STRETCH)

Dang, caught by a red herring immediately. GRAFFITI, HUSTLE, PSYCHO and BEAUTY are all "American ____" movies. Not even one away on that guess.

CORPS and COUP suggested to me that there would be a quartet of silent "P" words. Sure enough, that got me the blues. I'm a little sorry about the hint. I couldn't resist.

The yellows were up next. Straightforward enough. MASHED POTATO and TWIST then helped the greens click in my mind.

After that, CHECK and QUESTION helped me deduce the purple category. No perfect game this time, but my streak rolls on with win number 393.

How did you get on today? Here's my grid:

🟨🟩🟦🟪
🟦🟦🟦🟦
🟨🟨🟨🟨
🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟪🟪🟪🟪

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. I’ll be back over at Forbes for the Monday-Friday editions for the column. And if you haven’t subscribed to Pastimes already, definitely do that! It would be super sweet of you.

P.S. I really loved this suggestion from VI in our Discord collective. “Our Love” by Curtis Harding and Jazmine Sullivan featured on the soundtrack of the first season of Netflix show Arcane, which is based on the massively popular game, League of Legends. I actually don’t know all that much about LoL, but I’ve been meaning to watch the show for ages. This lovely soul song is a reminder that I should definitely do that.

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!

On weekdays, you can find this column over at Forbes. Please follow my blog there for more coverage of NYT Connections and other word games, and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me out a lot!

Sharing this column with other people who play Connections would be appreciated too. Also, subscribe to this newsletter if you haven’t already!
