Giphy

Hey there, Connectors! I hope you’ve had a fantastic weekend so far.

My dad has been trying to convince me for a long time to write a book. Either a novel based on an idea that came to him in a dream one night (about lovers who are separated during the Jacobite era) or something else. I don’t actually know if I have a book in me. And that’s not to mention the likelihood of it being successful enough to warrant all of that time and effort. I just don’t know if it’s something I’ll do.

I’ve always appreciated being able to write something within 20 minutes or a couple of hours and publish it on the internet for a large audience. Being locked into a single project for months or even years seems like such a huge undertaking. The same goes for films and games, which can be scrapped after years of work (which makes working in those fields less appealing than it did to me at a younger age).

Anyway, I feel compelled to do more here. I’ve had a bit of a break and I’ve been stockpiling some ideas for journal entries for a while. I’ve started a few I’ve been meaning to get back to.

Now, it’s time to follow my own advice and do the work. I’ve still got big plans for Pastimes, but those will never come to fruition if I don’t make ‘em happen.

So, starting next week, I’ll be publishing here more often. I’m looking forward to it!

Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.

Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Sunday, September 7 are coming right up.

One Word For Each Connections Group

Need some extra help?

Be warned: we’re starting to get into spoiler territory.

Let’s take a look at one word for each group.

Today’s Connections word hints are…

  • 🟨 Yellow group — SPLIT

  • 🟩 Green group — AURORA

  • 🟦 Blue group — IMPACT

  • 🟪 Purple group — LINEAR

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?

Today’s Connections groups are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — gymnastics moves

  • 🟩 Green group — Disney princesses

  • 🟦 Blue group — fonts

  • 🟪 Purple group — geometry adjectives

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are...

  • 🟨 Yellow group — gymnastics moves (AERIAL, ARABESQUE, ROUNDOFF, SPLIT)

  • 🟩 Green group — Disney princesses (ARIEL, AURORA, MERIDA, TIANA)

  • 🟦 Blue group — fonts (ARIAL, GEORGIA, IMPACT, VERDANA)

  • 🟪 Purple group — geometry adjectives (ANGULAR, AREAL, LINEAR, VOLUMETRIC)

The fonts were pretty clear to me out of the gate. I got the purples after that after seeing that ANGULAR, LINEAR and VOLUMETRIC went together. AREAL rung a bell, so I took a gamble and got all of those (AERIAL would have been my next guess).

The Disney princesses were up next (fun fact, MERIDA, the Scottish lead character in Brave, is the only official Disney princess that Pixar has created to date). Good thing I got those as I would not have known that an ARABESQUE was a gymnastics move -- ROUNDOFF was the giveaway there.

The grid looked a little daunting at first, but clocking the distinction between ARIAL and ARIEL was the difference maker for me today. That's another perfect game and my win streak now sits at 191. Here's my grid for this one:

🟦🟦🟦🟦
🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟨🟨🟨🟨

P.S. Since this word was mentioned on today’s grid, your Sunday recommendation is going to be “Aurora” by Foo Fighters. According to Dave Grohl, this was the late, great Taylor Hawkins’ favorite Foo Fighters song. The band now play it at every show to pay tribute to their old drummer.

It’s a lovely track. I definitely didn’t write a song that was heavily inspired by this when I was like 17 (I did and it’s called “Haven” and it’s one of my best, IMO):

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. I’ll be back over at Forbes for the Monday-Friday editions for the column. And if you haven’t subscribed to Pastimes already, definitely do that! It would be super sweet of you.

P.S.

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
