Hey there, Connectors! Welcome to the weekend!
I’ve had pretty low energy lately, which stinks because it’s summer and I should be out doing things. But I know that’s okay. It happens to everyone. I do feel a little bummed that I already haven’t been able to keep up with the cadence of essays I’d planned to write here, and that I perhaps maybe haven’t been quite as engaging in general over the last couple of weeks.
Still, it’s good that I’ve recognized that. Being aware of our issues is the first step toward fixing them. Step two is understanding. And I’ll keep marching in that direction. I’ll be back to my full self soon enough, I’m sure. And I have a new essay idea I’m starting to hash out. So, look out for that… whenever it’s ready. :)
Before we begin, we have a great little community on Discord, where we chat about NYT Connections, the rest of the NYT games and all kinds of other stuff. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot, and you’re more than welcome to join us.
Discord is also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare (or not-so-rare) occasions that I mess something up. I don’t look at Twitter much.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.
This is your final warning!
Today’s Connections answers are...
🟨 Yellow group — things a dog can fetch (BALL, BONE, FRISBEE, STICK)
🟩 Green group — great many (DROVE, HOST, LOAD, SCORE)
🟦 Blue group — possible results of a traffic violation (BOOT, POINTS, TICKET, TOW)
🟪 Purple group — Industrial Revolution inventors (BELL, DIESEL, SINGER, WATT)
Quite a few red herrings here, between the sports terms on the top line; SINGER and HOST on line 2; and TOW, DIESEL and LOAD on line 3. Actually, seeing SINGER, HOST and POINTS made me think of the Eurovision Song Contest, hence today’s GIF.
Still, FRISBEE and BONE gave me my entry point into the yellows. The grid then put HOST and DROVE next to each other, which helped out with the greens.
After that, I had a good idea about the purples, thanks to BELL and WATT. So I was able to use my great powers of deduction to figure out that group. Those words refer to Alexander Graham Bell, Rudolf Diesel, Isaac Singer and James Watt.
That left the blues for the win. This group didn't really click for me until the very end. Where I come from, a BOOT is a clamp (and a car's trunk is a boot, go figure!).
That's a perfect game! My streak is now up to 123 wins. Here's my grid:
🟨🟨🟨🟨
🟩🟩🟩🟩
🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟦🟦🟦🟦

P.S. I find modular synthesizers very fascinating instruments. I don’t really get how they work, in all truth. But they can be used to create some cool sounds and music. I watched some videos from an artist named Look Mum No Computer a while back. He’s doing some exciting work, and I dig this song and performance:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
